A Wydad trial and interest from France for Mothiba?
- Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba is reportedly on trial at Wydad Casablanca under coach Rulani Mokwena, who has long admired the player.
- He impressed during training but Mothiba’s future at Wydad remains uncertain, while French media link him to struggling Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has been spotted in Morocco recently, with reports stating that he is on trial at Wydad Casablanca.
The 28-year-old left Strasbourg after last year after spending six years at the club and he is now said to be training under former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokoena.
Mokwena is the head coach at Wydad and according to sources, he is an admirer of Mothiba.
“Rulani is a fan of Mothiba and even tried to sign him before he left Sundowns. If convinces his bosses at Wydad to sign him, then he will end his long wait for a new club,” sources said per The Citizen.
Despite the rumoured trial, there is no guarantee of any contracts being offered, the source adds: “Lebo has obviously impressed at Wydad but it’s unclear if he will be offered a contract or not. Remember Bongani Zungu trained with Wydad too but didn’t get a contract.”
Apart from the trial reports, French media have also linked the player with a move to Ligue 1.
Struggling Montpellier have only managed to score 15 goals in 16 league games and L’Equipe have mentioned the striker alongside the likes of former Inter Milan star Keita Balde as a potential signing.
