Abdul Khoza ends acting career to work behind the camera
- Khoza said his decision to leave acting is personal and based on his passion for storytelling.
- He shared a final audition tape to remind actors that no matter the fame, auditions are part of the job.
After a successful run in some of South Africa’s biggest TV shows, Abdul Khoza is hanging up his acting shoes.
The award-winning actor, best known for his role as Nqoba Zulu in The Wife, says he is ready to move on and focus on work behind the camera.
Khoza said his decision is personal. He plans to tell real South African stories by writing, producing, and helping new talent break into the industry.
He posted one of his final audition tapes online, calling it his last self-tape.
“This is my last self-tape,” he wrote. “Thank you to everyone who supported my acting journey. I would not have discovered my own talent without your support.”
Khoza has starred in shows like Isibaya, My Brother’s Keeper, and The Wife, which earned him big wins at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards and the South African Film and Television Awards.
Even though many feel he’s at the top of his game, Khoza says he is ready for a new chapter in his creative journey.
He is not quitting the entertainment world—just shifting gears. He hinted that exciting projects are on the way and hopes to shine a light on fresh voices.
Khoza says it’s time to shape the future of storytelling from the other side of the camera.
