AKA murder case waits for suspects in Eswatini
- Two brothers in Eswatini are fighting not to face charges for AKA and Tibz murders.
- Five other suspects remain in jail after being denied bail in May.
The trial of rapper AKA’s alleged killers was delayed on Friday because two suspects are fighting not to come back to South Africa from Eswatini.
Brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande are appealing against being sent back to face charges for the murders of AKA and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
Five other men are already in jail for the shootings that happened outside Durban’s Wish restaurant in February 2023. They were denied bail in May.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gcaba told the court the brothers must join the other accused.
“If one weighs the interests of justice, the two brothers will join the five accused,” he said.
But the brothers’ lawyer Sbusiso Dlamini disagreed, saying his clients weren’t needed for the case to go ahead.
The five men in custody – Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Ndimande – face charges of murder, money laundering, conspiracy to commit murder, having illegal guns and bullets, and five counts of attempted murder.
Magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo stopped the case until Eswatini’s court decided about sending the brothers back.
“We live in a technological society and we should know what happens in the other country,” he said.
