Madlanga Commission: Senior Investigative Directorate Against Corruption investigator Brian Padyachee is expected to finish giving evidence after two days of tough questioning. Commissioners have been probing allegations that the unit mishandled investigations, including the controversial appointment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, which investigators argued was a human resources matter rather than a criminal case. Two more witnesses are expected to testify after Padyachee concludes his evidence.

Also, the Madlanga Commission evidence leaders have subpoenaed CCTV footage from a Cape Town shopping centre after receiving reports that North West businessman Suliman Carrim was recently seen having lunch there. Carrim has repeatedly postponed his testimony, citing ill health, including a suspected heart attack in April. Chief evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson said whistleblowers also claimed Carrim attended social gatherings in the North West while supposedly too ill to testify. The commission expects to analyse the footage before deciding its next move.

Cullinan Magistrate’s Court : A 35 year old man is expected to appear in court after being arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team for the murder of Economic Freedom Fighters Tshwane secretary Monica Dube. Dube was shot dead at her home in Wallmannsthal, north of Pretoria, last month. She had survived another assassination attempt in March after being shot 11 times and spending weeks in intensive care before returning home.

Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court: An Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officer, a former metro police officer and a businessman will continue their bail application over the alleged theft of precious stones worth R14.9 million. Adrian MacKenzie, Kersha Leigh Stohls and Etienne van der Walt face charges linked to the 2023 robbery. Evidence before the Madlanga Commission alleged suspended deputy metro police chief Julius Mkhwanazi masterminded the heist. Investigators are still searching for two more suspects.

Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court: Suspended Organised Crime Sergeant Fannie Nkosi is expected to apply for bail on charges of defeating the ends of justice. Prosecutors allege he posed as a colonel before removing a police docket and demanding the return of exhibits, including dagga, linked to a 2022 drug case. He also faces separate charges in Gauteng involving the alleged unlawful possession of police dockets and ammunition.
