Blues continue strong finish to the season!

On the penultimate matchday of Premier League action, Chelsea and Manchester United both picked up wins in their quests to play European football next season.

Chelsea picked up their fourth straight win as they beat Brighton 2-1 at the Amex while United beat Newcastle 3-2 in their final home game at Old Trafford.

Heading into the final weekend of the league campaign, Chelsea got the job done to move up into sixth place on the table.

Chelsea’s troubles in front of goal have become a thing of the past as Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have 12 goals in their last four league games.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring with ten minutes of the first half to play before Christopher Nkunku made it to two shortly after the hour mark.

Brighton were given a glimmer of hope when Blues captain Reece James saw red for a cynical foul on Joao Pedro; but Danny Welbeck’s goal came too late.

The result means that Chelsea’s Europa League hopes are now potentially one win away from becoming a reality.

Over in Manchester, Erik Ten Hag’s troops showed the fighting spirit that was missing from the Red Devils’ last few games.

United conceded twice to send their concession record up to 58 in the Premier League this season, their most across a single campaign in the competition’s history.

Thanks to Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund, they scored three, though — leaving them in eighth, level on points with the Magpies in seventh.

Post-match, Ten Hag rallied the Old Trafford faithful up for the FA Cup final against their City rivals at Wembley. Should the Red Devils get their hands on the silverware, they will gain automatic qualification into the Europa League.

But a result on the final day against Brighton could also be enough for European football next season if Newcastle get a worse result away to Brentford.

Along with the battle for Europe, the title race will also culminate on Sunday, with Arsenal hosting Everton while Manchester City face West Ham.

All ten matches kick off simultaneously at 17:00.
