‘Bra Stan’ shot during home robbery

Orlando Pirates senior official Stanley Tshabalala is recovering in hospital after he was shot by burglars at his home in Centurion, Tshwane.

The shooting occurred just after midday on Wednesday.

“Former Bafana Bafana coach Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala was shot following a house break-in at the Tshabalala residence on Wednesday just after midday,” according to a statement released by family spokesperson Thato Matuka on Thursday evening.

“The matter is currently in the hands of the SAPS. The Tshabalala family thanks the public for their messages of support during this time, and have asked for privacy while Bra Stan is recovering.”

Details of the shooting incident are still sketchy and Tshabalala’s condition is yet to be known at this stage.

Popularly known as “Bran Stan” or “Screamer,” Tshabalala is a household name in South African football.

The 75-year-old was the first coach to guide Bafana Bafana in an official match following their readmission into international football in 1992.

A founder member of Kaizer Chiefs, he was also a Mamelodi Sundowns coach in the 1980s.
