Ennerdale teen shines at national science fair with three major awards

  • Nkateko Moyane from Ennerdale won three awards, a laptop and a tablet at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair.
  • The Daleview Secondary learner also earned a Gold medal and says his dream is to become a software engineer.

Grade 10 learner Nkateko Moyane from Daleview Secondary School in Ennerdale won three top awards at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair.

At the 45th edition of the event, Moyane received a laptop from the Afric Training College Award, R5,000 from the Shanice Francis Memorial Award, and a tablet from the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) for the Best Project on Environmental Monitoring.

He also walked away with a Gold medal, making him one of the top achievers at the national competition.

“Winning at the ISF was one of the most exciting and emotional moments of my life,” said Moyane.

“I didn’t just win one award, I received three. The rewards were things I thought I would only get once I started working, not while still in high school.”

Moyane’s science journey began in 2022 when his teacher encouraged him to take part in the Eskom Expo. Since then, his passion for science and technology has continued to grow.

When he is not experimenting, Moyane spends his time learning about computers and coding. His dream is to become a software engineer and use technology to solve real-world problems.

His message to other young scientists is simple: “Don’t give up. Stay curious and keep learning. Every failure is a step closer to success.”
