Madadzhe is also accused of faking his mother’s death and forging a death certificate to claim life insurance money — a crime dating back to 2017. Scrolla.Africa reported on Monday how his mother only discovered this when she tried to apply for an old age grant.
He had been out on R50,000 bail for the murder case under strict conditions, including no contact with state witnesses and no further crimes. But now he’s expected to apply for a second bail on 18 March, with the murder trial set to begin on 17 March.
Police say he recently hired a BMW X3 from Avis but never returned it. Instead, he branded it as his own and used it to travel between Limpopo and Gauteng for court appearances. He even posted pictures online showing off the car as his personal vehicle.
On social media, Madadzhe had been flaunting a luxurious lifestyle — posting pictures of multiple vehicles, including a VW Polo he claimed to have bought for his 12-year-old daughter.
“This guy had all of us fooled,” said Mashudu Nemavheya, one of his followers. “We thought he was rich, changing cars like shoes. But now we know he was scamming people. He doesn’t want to work; he just wants fast money.”
Nemavheya said innocent buyers and renters could now be caught in the legal mess. “Some people bought cars from him without knowing they were stolen,” he said.
Another follower, Richard Muleya, said he had been puzzled when Madadzhe recently posted about buying a BMW X3. “That car is expensive, and he can’t afford it. I’m not surprised to hear it was hired fraudulently.”
The NPA has not revealed full details about the fraud case but confirmed Madadzhe will return to court next week.
