Golden Arrows star hunted by angry mashonisas
- Sicelo Hlatshwayo owes over R50,000 to loan sharks who have allegedly tried to hijack his car.
- Golden Arrows say they can’t contact him because he doesn’t have a phone right now.
A Lamontville Golden Arrows player is on the run from dangerous loan sharks who say he owes them more than R50,000.
Sicelo Hlatshwayo is being hunted by armed mashonisas from the taxi industry in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal.
They claim he borrowed the money last year — and they’ve had enough of waiting.
Now they’re after him, and they’ve even tried to hijack his car to get their money back.
The last straw for the loan sharks came when Hlatshwayo posted a picture of a new car on social media. The photo spread quickly and the taxi bosses saw it.
They were furious that he could afford a car but still hadn’t paid them back.
Originally from Newcastle, Hlatshwayo briefly joined AmaZulu in January 2023 but returned home to Durban.
He played in the Second Division for Gamalakhe United before moving to First Division side Mthatha Bucks in 2015. He later joined Jomo Cosmos and then played for Polokwane City and Free State Stars. He made his Premier Division debut for Polokwane City.
In 2021, he signed with Marumo Gallants and was named Man of the Match twice in 2022. But he was dropped after Dan Malesela took over as coach and was released later that year.
Golden Arrows picked him up on a free transfer — and he impressed. Last year, there were rumours about a move to Orlando Pirates.
In December 2023, Hlatshwayo was hospitalised after a serious collision with a teammate during training.
Scrolla.Africa tried several times to reach him. But Golden Arrows media officer Mqo Thusi said, “We are not aware of the allegations but Hlatshwayo doesn’t have a cellphone at the moment.”
