‘I lost everything’ – Mama Joy crushed by Royal AM’s PSL exit

  • Superfan Mama Joy says she’s lost everything after her beloved Royal AM was kicked out of the PSL.
  • The team was expelled over R40-million in unpaid taxes reportedly owed by owner MaMkhize.

Royal AM’s number one supporter, Mama Joy Chauke, says she is heartbroken after the team was expelled from the PSL.

The PSL committee announced the decision on Thursday after reports that the club’s owner, MaMkhize, owes the South African Revenue Service over R40-million in unpaid taxes.

Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, Mama Joy said the news left her numb.

“Royal AM was my home. I lost everything. MaMkhize was my mom — she opened her home and took me in. I’m lost and shattered,” she said.

She said she will no longer support any club teams and will now throw her support behind national teams like Bafana Bafana and the Springboks.

Her message to MaMkhize was full of love and support: “You are my mom and you will always be my mom. This is not the end of the world. I love and trust you.”

Mama Joy joined Royal AM a few years ago after leaving Orlando Pirates.

Her switch made headlines and opened doors, with many seeing her as more than just a football fan.

She said no other clubs have contacted her yet and she’s not looking to join any new team.

“For now, I’m sticking with the national teams,” she said.
