Rapper Emtee has blamed his fame for the media attention he received following a car crash.

Emtee, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, collided with a parked car in his silver Volkswagen Caravelle T5 at The Precinct Luxury Apartments in Midrand.

“Not that anybody cares, but I’m okay,” he told TshisaLIVE.

“It’s all because of who I am. If I was a regular citizen, it would have never happened that way. It’s a trend to talk sh*t about me.”

Images of the incident quickly spread online, but Emtee dismissed rumours that he was under the influence of alcohol, clarifying that he only smokes marijuana.

“The people lied to the police and said I was drunk. Yes, I smoke weed, but I don’t drink alcohol,” he said.

He expressed frustration over the attention the crash attracted due to his celebrity status but said he preferred not to dwell on it.

“I’m not like them. I don’t have a loud mouth. The accident happened, and that’s that. I’m alive, he’s alive. Everything will be sorted out,” he added.
