Ndwedwe: The funeral of Senzo Mfayela, Chairperson of the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Legacy Foundation and a dedicated IFP National Council Member, will take place on Sunday, 23 February 2025, at Mgezengwane Sportsfield in the Mona Area of Ndwedwe.

Mfayela, affectionately known as “Mchoboza,” was a respected IFP leader and a Member of Parliament from 1994 to 1999. He was also the brother of the late Simo Mfayela, a well-known IFP mayor of iLembe District who passed away in 2020 of Covid-19 related illness.

This week, IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa visited the Mfayela family to pay his respects. The party has confirmed that Hlabisa will deliver the eulogy at the funeral.

Zinkwazi: A raid by the police’s Ethekwini District Economic Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) led to the seizure of firearms and ammunition in the Sydenham and Zinkwazi areas.

Acting on a tip-off, police executed a search warrant at an outbuilding in Sydenham, but the suspect managed to escape. Inside, officers found an AR-556 rifle on a table, along with 39 rifle rounds, five rifle magazines, 19 pistol rounds, one pistol magazine, and safe keys.

Further investigations revealed more ammunition stored at a property in Zinkwazi, under the Kwadukuza policing area. Authorities are continuing their search for the suspect.

Durban: The Durban High Court has sentenced Sinethemba Mtshali (30) and Siyamthanda Melvin Gumede (32) to life imprisonment and 25 years each for murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery.

In October 2021, Mtshali and Gumede, along with accomplices, planned and carried out a robbery at Ultra Liquors in Mayville. They armed themselves in preparation for violence.

In addition to his sentence, Mtshali received an extra 11 years for firearm-related offences.
