• Two well-known sangomas Gogo Maweni and Gogo Skhotheni are fighting on social media over personal attacks.

• New sangoma Kelly Khumalo steps in to tell them to respect their sacred calling.

A fight between two of Mzansi’s most famous sangomas has turned ugly, with newly graduated sangoma Kelly Khumalo stepping in to calm things down.

The trouble started when Gogo Maweni and her friends said Gogo Skhotheni had hinted that Maweni’s ex-husband Monde was gay by asking him to sleep with Dominic Zaca.

Kelly Khumalo, who has just finished her sangoma training, told both women to think about their special calling.

“Respect the secrets of Isigodlo. Respect the secrets of ancestors. Respect the secrets of Amakhosi. Some things should remain private in our sacred spaces,” she said.

The fight escalated when social media blogger Musa Khawula posted a picture of a coffin, saying: “With Gogo Skhotheni having lost her sickly son, Dr Maweni goes down a rabbit hole as she ‘works’ on the casket similar to the one that was used to bury Gogo Skhotheni’s son.”

Kelly tried to bring peace between the two. “My sisters, this is not right. It lowers the dignity of the healing gift you have received. Sometimes you’ll find people in difficult situations, and those things should be kept hidden at all costs,” she said.

The two sangomas then started fighting about money and possessions. Skhotheni said Maweni wore fake Gucci clothes and didn’t own her cars. Maweni hit back by saying Skhotheni was lying about owning the new club Cavo.
