King Misuzulu apologises to the Zulu nation

  • King Misuzulu and his elders say the family’s actions after the deaths of the King and Queen caused pain and division.
  • The royal family promised to begin a healing process to restore unity and dignity to the Monarch.

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and senior members of the Zulu royal family have offered a heartfelt apology to the Zulu nation for the chaos and division that followed the deaths of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and Queen Regent Mantfombi kaSobhuza.

The royal family met in uLundi on Thursday night to reflect on the troubled period and to start a process of healing and unity.

In a statement, the royal family said many painful events had unfolded since the deaths of the King and Queen, damaging the image of the Monarch and hurting the nation.

“Mothers and grandmothers of the King, along with Princes who are his fathers, came together to reflect on the wounds and painful times we’ve endured,” the statement read.

“We sincerely apologise to the Zulu nation for the regrettable series of events that followed the passing of King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and our Queen.”

They said losing both King Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi was not just the death of a monarch and matriarch, but the loss of parents.

The grief, they said, was made worse by challenges that left the family without support.

The royal meeting was filled with warmth and laughter as the elders spoke openly and laid the foundation for rebuilding trust and dignity in the Zulu royal household.
