King Misuzulu blocks Ingonyama Trust Board meeting
- King Misuzulu stops suspended board members from holding what he calls an illegal meeting about trust land worth R20-million.
- The King plans his own meeting with traditional leaders to discuss the land sales and protect Ithala Bank’s legacy.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has stopped the Ingonyama Trust Board from meeting, saying they are trying to override his planned talks with traditional leaders about managing trust land.
Scrolla.Africa learned on Wednesday afternoon that King Misuzulu is angry that board members he suspended are planning to hold what he calls an illegal meeting on Thursday morning.
“His Majesty is planning a meeting called isibaya samakhosi to discuss several issues, including matters related to Ingonyama Trust land. His Majesty will meet with the beneficiaries of the Ingonyama Trust land, but the board members claim to be meeting on Thursday illegally,” said a source from the royal family.
The King is also upset about reports claiming he made himself chairperson of the Ingonyama Trust Board.
The Ingonyama Trust Act states that the King is automatically the chairperson but can appoint someone to stand in for him due to his busy schedule.
A royal court insider told Scrolla.Africa on Wednesday afternoon that King Misuzulu sees the planned meeting as sabotage against the land trustees.
The source says the board failed to follow instructions from then-Minister of Land and Restitution Thoko Didiza.
King Misuzulu wants to speak with traditional leaders about land that was sold illegally for more than R20 million.
Sources say the King also plans to discuss Ithala Bank with the Amakhosi and how to protect it.
King Misuzulu aims to protect the legacy of his grandfather, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who founded Ithala Bank.
Board member Advocate Linda Zama told Scrolla.Africa: “I’m in a meeting, I can’t talk to you.”
Scrolla.Africa tried repeatedly to contact Ingonyama Trust spokesperson Simphiwe Mxakaza, but he did not answer his calls.
