Kit clash causes another ABC Motsepe League abandonment
- A match between Royal Pirates and Sunrise FC in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League was stopped after 15 minutes due to kit colour clashes.
- Sunrise FC thanked fans as their last 2024 match ended abruptly, with hopes for a stronger return next year.
The bizarre match suspensions in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League continued this weekend as the game between Royal Pirates and Sunrise FC was called off due to kit colour clashes.
Saturday’s game in Burgersfort was halted 15 minutes into proceedings after Pirates complained about the clash of kit colours.
Pirates were dressed in black kits while Sunrise wore purple. However, Sunrise’s alternate kit was black and yellow and their warm-up kit had no numbers, leaving them with a lack of options to address the issue.
“Today’s clash against Royal Pirates ended abruptly as they refused to continue, citing a clash of kit colours, despite the referee’s decision to proceed,” the Sunrise FC statement read.
“Our boys started the game strong, showing determination, with a goal by Edward Manqele ruled offside and a couple of missed chances.
“This marks the last match of the year 2024. A heartfelt thank you to our fans for your unwavering support throughout the season. Stay tuned for any updates as we prepare for an even stronger return next year.”
