KZN news bites: King Misuzulu’s swag breaks the internet

Celani Sikhakhane brings the latest news from Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Durban – King Misuzulu KaZwelithini broke the internet as he appeared in cool threads during a march against gender-based violence in Durban. His Majesty was accompanied by his Traditional Prime Minister Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi and Minister in the Presidency, Sindi Chikunga. The King is normally seen wearing designer suits or traditional Zulu royal attire but on Friday he turned heads as he popped up at the protest wearing a cap and a black t-shirt with a chain. He had the look of a rapper which revived the Bayede Dawg term that was given to him by MetroFM DJ Tbo Touch Molefe. Speaking on behalf of women, the youth and persons with disabilities, Chikunga said if men can lead the fight against violence against women and children, GBV will be a thing of the past.

Inanda: Zenzele Dube – the grandson of ANC founding president John Langalibalele Dube – was laid to rest on Saturday in Inanda at a funeral service attended by ANC leaders. ANC KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma said that Dube remained an authentic Umkhonto Wesizwe soldier until his untimely death. “Comrade Ze as he was affectionately known did not hide behind the legacy of his grandfather. He was in the trenches having joined the MK in the 1970s. He was arrested, detained and declared a prohibited immigrant in Swaziland. He received military training in various camps in Angola, Tanzania, Russia and East Germany. He operated in underground structures in Mozambique and Swaziland.” He returned to South Africa after the ANC was unbanned in 1990.

Richards Bay – Members of the local Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, working together with Louwsburg Visible Policing, arrested Sechaba Maqhama, 44, on Sunday when he was found transporting 67 bags of dagga worth about R1.2-million. Cops had a tipoff about a vehicle that was transporting dagga from Pongola to Vryheid and the vehicle was intercepted on Road 69. The vehicle was seized and will be referred to the Asset Forfeiture Investigation for further handling. Maqhama briefly appeared in the Louwsburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. The case was postponed to 12 December.
