KZN news bites: Zulu clans demand money and land from Ingonyama Trust

Pietermaritzburg – People from different clans stormed the Ingonyama Trust offices on Friday to demand the land and money they say belongs to them. This happened after Zulu regiments cancelled their planned protest at the last minute. In another twist, board member Inkosi Mabhudu Tembe quit to show support for King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Durban – Murder suspect Mfanafuthi Kunene broke down crying while telling his mother he killed Ayabonga Mjilo. A Zulu newspaper reports that after hearing her son’s confession about his fight with Ayabonga, the mother called police investigators.

ONgoye – KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has praised South Africa’s first Education Minister, Professor Sibusiso Bengu, as someone who fought for justice and equality. Ntuli called him a “beacon of hope” who served the people well and would inspire others. Professor Bengu was buried on Friday, 10 January. President Cyril Ramaphosa declared his funeral a Special Official Category 2 event.
