‘Lobolo should be for virgins only’ says podcaster

  • Penuel says women who aren’t virgins should focus on their careers, not marriage.
  • He blames feminism and modern culture for destroying black traditions and dignity.

Podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa said that lobolo (bride price) should only be paid for virgins who want to become housewives.

In a recent YouTube video, he said women who have had sex before marriage should not expect lobolo and should rather focus on building careers.

“Sex before marriage was taboo in African and Christian traditions. If you sleep with someone before marriage, you are sinning and should repent,” he said.

Penuel also claimed a woman’s value is linked to her “body count” and how men see her in society.

“As small as lobolo and damages are in the grand scheme of things, they are important in terms of what they mean in society,” he said.

“To me, they are a fair sign of why black communities are so broken. That tells me almost everything I need to know about the health of black society.”

He slammed modern lobolo customs where men borrow money to pay bride price, calling it hypocritical in a world where women are demanding equality.

He also criticised the practice of paying “damages” for unplanned pregnancies, saying parents should raise their daughters to stay virgins until marriage.

“A girl child is meant to be raised by a father and, specifically, a mother who teaches her about purity,” he said.

“Today, girls are telling their mums they’re having sex, abortions and miscarriages. Then this idiot of a boy has to pay damages while the girl pretends to be a virgin.”

He said parents who demanded damages were dishonest when they knew their daughters were not virgins.
