Maskandi artist builds Christmas house for poor family

  • Linah Nhlengethwa, 62, received a new home as a Christmas gift from Maskandi star Gatsheni Ndlovu, replacing her leaky mud house.
  • Praised by Big Zulu, Ndlovu transformed Nhlengethwa’s life by building her a sturdy house, symbolising hope and generosity.

Christmas will never be the same for granny Linah Nhlengethwa.

After years of living with her family crammed into a mud house in Phongolo, through heavy rains and floods, Linah, 62, has received the Christmas gift she’s been praying for: a decent home.

Maskandi star Gatsheni Ndlovu made Linah’s dream come true by building her a house. He even fenced the property.

The house was handed over to the Nhlengethwa family on 18 October. Ndlovu hosted a braai as the family said goodbye to the mud house that leaked when it rained.

This will be their first Christmas in a solid structure that will shelter the family, whatever the weather.

“It makes me happy to change people’s lives and it makes me happy to see other people happy, especially this family who faced the situation of staying in a house in poor condition because my home was also like that,” Ndlovu said.

“I thank all the people who helped me to answer this family’s prayers.”

He has been a dominant artist since January. Ahead of the 29 May general elections, he was hired by South African political parties to fill up Moses Mabhida and other venues for rallies.

He has received praise from Big Zulu for building a house for the Nhlengethwa family.

In his post Big Zulu praised Ndlovu for his kind spirit, writing: “I praise this hero called Gatsheni. My brother has such a big heart and down-to-earth nature. I, as his supporter, say thank you.”

Zulu said that he was in awe of the man Ndlovu has grown to become, adding that he is proud to be a supporter of him and his music.

“I wish you nothing but the best. Thank you for all that you do,” he said.
