Mom confesses to selling child for cash
- A Vanderbijlpark mother has been arrested for allegedly selling her son and falsely reporting his abduction, facing human trafficking charges.
- Police continue to search for the missing child as the mother remains in custody ahead of her bail hearing on 29 November.
The mother of a two-year-old boy, Kutlwano, from Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng has been arrested after reporting that her child was abducted in Boipatong in the Sedibeng District, Gauteng.
The woman appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of human trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery, and making a false statement to the police.
The charges stem from allegations that she sold her son to unidentified individuals.
On 13 November, she allegedly reported a false case to the police, claiming that unknown men had kidnapped her son.
She told the police at the time that her son had been grabbed by three men driving a silver-grey Polo.
During the police investigation, it was discovered that the kidnapping claim was false.
The woman later confessed to fabricating the story. She was subsequently arrested and has been in custody since.
The whereabouts of the child remain unknown, and police efforts to locate him are ongoing.
The case has been postponed to 29 November for a possible bail application. The state intends to oppose her release on bail.
