• Popular actor Nkanyiso Mchunu is out on bail after his girlfriend accused him of assault.

Popular TV actor Nkanyiso Mchunu has been arrested after his girlfriend, Masechaba Monnahela, accused him of beating her.

Nkanyiso is known for his roles in My Brother’s Keeper, Umkhokha: The Curse and Ithonga.

Masechaba said the abuse started after she caught another woman at his house.

“I went to his house and I found the girl there. We had a quarrel, and that is when he [first] beat me,” she said, Sunday World reported.

She also said that he pushed her to the ground on his birthday. “It did not end there. On his birthday, he pushed me [and I fell] to the floor. Since then, he would occasionally slap me.”

Masechaba claimed the other woman is a second assistant director in Ithonga, where Nkanyiso works.

He was arrested and appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. He was released on a warning and R1,500 bail.

The case was postponed to 17 March 2025 to give police time to share the case docket.

Nkanyiso has opened a counter case against Masechaba. He accuses her of trespassing and damaging his property.

People close to the couple say they often fought and were jealous of each other. “It was only a matter of time before things exploded,” said one person.

Police are still investigating. Attempts to contact both Nkanyiso and Masechaba were not successful.

Earlier this month, Nkanyiso was also being investigated for abuse.
