Proteas back on top!
South Africa’s returning test captain Temba Bavuma’s player of the series performance guided his side to a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka.
Following their 233-run win in Durban, Bavuma smacked 78 and 66 to help the Proteas to a 109-run victory in Gqeberha.
The result sends them into the top spot on the World Test Championship table; they know that a win in one of the two tests against Pakistan this month will most likely be enough to qualify for the final.
“Firstly, good to be back – was frustrating watching the guys from the sidelines, was good to be among them. I think we’re doing well as a team, number one in the WTC table as of now. I don’t know what’ll happen in the future, but we’ll celebrate today,” Bavuma said post-match.
“In a couple of weeks, we have Pakistan coming up. We’ll have to keep our focus on that and continue on our journey.”
The attention will now turn to the short format as Pakistan kick off their tour with the first of three T20 internationals on Tuesday.
Three one-day games will then follow before the Boxing Day test match takes centre stage at SuperSport Park.
