Proteas Women crush Scotland in T20 World Cup

The Proteas women’s team bounced back from their England loss with an 80-run victory against Scotland in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup on Wednesday.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, South Africa started strong, not losing a wicket in the powerplay. Marizanne Kapp shone with 43 runs off 24 balls, while Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits scored in the 40s.

South Africa posted 166/5 in their 20 overs, which Scotland couldn’t match. The Scots struggled against South Africa’s bowling, getting all out for just 86 runs in under 18 overs.

Scotland has been eliminated from the tournament, while South Africa moves closer to the semi-finals.

“Little bit nervous at the start of the match,” said Kapp, who was named player of the match.

“Wicket was lot slower today; played a bit slower. It’s more a confidence thing for me.

“Focusing more on the basics, backing my strengths. Good total; would have liked it if we had pushed to 180, 190 considering where we were, but good learnings.”

South Africa’s next match is against Bangladesh on Saturday afternoon.
