Rashford joins Villa after Man United nightmare
- Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford moves to Aston Villa on loan until season’s end.
- Villa will pay most of his wages as they chase a top-four spot in the Premier League.
England striker Marcus Rashford has escaped his Manchester United troubles for a fresh start at high-flying Aston Villa.
Villa moved quickly to sign Rashford after selling their Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabia. The move gives the 27-year-old a chance to revive his career after being frozen out by United’s new coach Ruben Amorim.
Rashford joins a Villa team flying high in Europe and chasing a Champions League spot, sitting just four points off the Premier League top four.
Villa will pay up to 90% of his wages, with United covering the rest.
“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the manager’s ambitions,” Rashford said in a Villa statement.
“I just want to play football and am excited to get started. I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.”
The move was one of the biggest surprises as the January transfer window closed.
