Refereeing controversies threaten league’s integrity
- Two Limpopo ABC Motsepe League games were halted over controversial refereeing, sparking integrity concerns in the league. A thorough review is underway.
- The Mohlabile United vs. Ngwaabe City Motors match ended after a disputed penalty, while another game lasted just two minutes due to “dubious” officiating.
The South African third division Limpopo ABC Motsepe League saw yet another game suspended midway due to officiating issues.
“Dubious” refereeing decisions saw a match between Vondwe XI Bullets and Mpheni Defenders halted after just two minutes, as per FarPost.
This incident follows the game between Mohlabile United and Ngwaabe City Motors at the Jane Furse Artificial Stadium on Saturday, which was stopped after Mohlabile were awarded a controversial penalty.
City Motors, coached by former Baroka FC mentor Thoka Matsemela, were 1-0 down to Mohlabile United when the game was stopped.
The continued issues surrounding officials in the league have raised doubts over the integrity of the league, with two games already being abandoned last week in Mpumalanga and Gauteng respectively.
Following these incidents, the league will examine all affected matches, as per the regulations. FarPost added that each match will undergo a “thorough review process”.
