Royal AM players strike over missing pay
- Royal AM’s future hangs in the balance after players boycott training over unpaid December salaries.
- The club faces multiple financial crises including a Fifa transfer ban for failing to pay R15-million to former striker Samir Nurkovic.
KwaZulu-Natal football club Royal AM is in trouble after players refused to train because they haven’t been paid for December.
The money problems got worse when their weekend game against Chippa United was called off without explanation.
This comes after a November raid by Sars and police on club president Shauwn Mkhize’s properties. She reportedly owes R40-million in tax through her family trust.
Despite her financial travails with the taxman, a nonchalant MaMkhize and her player son cum chairman of the club, Andile, seem unfazed and use various social media platforms to flaunt their wealth in the form of expensive imported cars.
The club is already banned from signing new players because they haven’t paid the R15-million they owe to their former striker Samir Nurkovic.
Royal AM hasn’t played since losing 3-1 to TS Galaxy on 29 December. Now they face more trouble; Sars might try to shut down the club to get their money, while Fifa could start taking away points if they don’t pay Nurkovic, SABC Sport reported.
