SABC’s Muvhango faces final curtain in July
- Long-running SABC drama Muvhango faces possible end as its contract expires in July after recent struggles.
- Show creator Duma Ndlovu brought in new talent like Leleti Khumalo but the future remains uncertain.
Popular SABC show Muvhango might close its doors for good when its contract ends in July.
The tshiVenda drama hit hard times last year when it went off the air for more than two weeks, leaving both viewers and actors worried about their favourite show.
SABC’s head of communications Mmoni Ngubane has confirmed the show’s uncertain future.
“The SABC can confirm that only one season of Muvhango is currently contracted and that the contract is set to end on July 31. The SABC cannot comment on the future of the programme at this stage,” she said, TimesLive reported.
The show tried to boost its ratings by bringing in well-known actress Leleti Khumalo, but this might not be enough to save it.
Duma Ndlovu, who created Muvhango, is known for making other hit shows like My Brother’s Keeper and Umkhokha: The Curse.
Even with new faces and fresh storylines, the show’s future remains uncertain as July draws closer.
Viewers will have to wait and see if their long-running favourite will stay on screens after winter.
