Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma has apologised to his fans after many complained about his behaviour during recent performances.

Videos of him on stage went viral, with some saying his energy was low and others calling him rude to fans.

The 29-year-old spoke during a live Instagram video with DJ Maphorisa on Wednesday. Maphorisa told him fans were upset, and Scotts responded: “Those who are angry with me, I’m sorry. It’s a misunderstanding. It doesn’t make sense for Scotts to have an attitude. Peace magents.”

He also shared a post on X, writing a letter to God and his fans.

“God, I know I can’t handle it, it’s too much. But I believe You have never forsaken me. I’m Your son, and I come to You.”

Fans responded with mixed emotions.

“Fans feed you. They are your customers. When you are out and about, accommodate them and make them feel valued,” wrote one.

Another added: “O rata attention mfanaka (you like attention, my boy), South Africans will humble you because you forget that you make money from the people.”

Despite the backlash, Scotts said he wants to grow while staying true to himself.

“Whether you like me or not, I don’t give a damn. I’m here to grow, show up and stay true to myself.”

Scotts did not win at the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards but said he was proud to be part of the event.

“Though I didn’t walk away with a win at #MMA2025, I’m proud to have stood among such brilliant minds. Big congratulations to all the winners.”

He also opened up about how hard it is to deal with fame.

Some fans were angry after he refused to take pictures with them. He said fame has taken away his privacy and peace.

“I can’t be loved by everyone. I can’t deal with the fact that my life can’t be private anymore. I used to go to the mall and buy shoes peacefully; now I have to think about pictures.”

He said he doesn’t always want to be in the spotlight and hopes people understand that.

“Just because I’m famous doesn’t mean I always have to smile and give my time. I’m sorry. Cancel me, South Africa – maybe then I’ll be free.”
