Sekhukhune sack Seema, Baxter lined up

Sekhukhune United have fired coach Lehlohonolo Seema a month after the club placed him on special leave.

The former Orlando Pirates could not finish the season amid reports of a fallout with his bosses.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club wishes to announce the departure of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema,” a club statement read.

“The coach’s contract, which is set to expire on 30 June 2024, will not be extended.”

“The club would like to thank Coach Seema for his dedication and hard work during his time with the team and wishes him everything of the best in his future endeavours.”

Seema was fired at a time when Babina Noko had two Premier Soccer League games remaining and were vying for a top-two spot.

It was a surprise decision by Sekhukhune who went on to finish fourth on the log.

However, Seema appeared unaware of the decision taken by the club on him.

“You know my situation,” Seema told Scrolla.Africa.

“It’s difficult to tell what the future holds for me because nothing has come out so far and nothing has been finalised, I’m still on special leave.”

Reports indicated that former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter is being lined up to take over from Seema and talks have commenced.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune have parted ways with eight players: Sibusiso Vilakazi, Collins Makgaka, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Edwin Gyimah, Michael Sarpong, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Tashreeq Morris and Lebohang Mabotja.
