Taxi driver claims cops beat him at toll gate
- Taxi driver claims police assaulted him at De Hoek Plaza after he showed them his driving documents.
- Passengers were left stranded for two hours at the toll gate after their driver was arrested.
A taxi driver says police officers beat him up at the De Hoek Plaza toll gate while he was taking passengers from Johannesburg to QwaQwa.
The incident happened at 1pm on Tuesday when police stopped the taxi to check the driver’s papers.
Passengers say the trouble started after the driver showed his driving licence and Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
“The police asked for his documents, and he gave them. Then suddenly there was a fight, and they arrested our driver,” said one passenger who didn’t want to be named.
The arrest left passengers stranded at the toll gate for more than two hours before another taxi came to fetch them.
