Thumbs down for Premier League star after kitchen injury

Ipswich City defender Axel Tuanzebe will be out of action for a while after he almost lost a thumb in a kitchen accident last week.

The former Manchester United player was doing the dishes at home when a glass shattered and almost sliced off a thumb.

Doctors managed to save the 26-year-old’s thumb after an emergency operation.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna confirmed that the ”unfortunate accident” kept his player out of the weekend clash with West Ham and will see him miss at least a month of action.

“It’s not going to be a couple of weeks, probably longer. There are still discussions with the specialists,” McKenna told reporters.

“He’s naturally a miss with the way he’s started the season.”

Tuanzebe has been a crucial part of the newly promoted side’s squad this season, starting in all six league matches before his injury.

He will likely miss Ipswich’s home games against Everton and Leicester City and trips to Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur.
