Tshwane offices left to rot
- Tshwane’s Atteridgeville municipal offices are in shambles with broken gates, dirty floors and security guards using their own locks.
- MMC Morodi promises weekly checks on repairs and cleaning after finding the building in a terrible state.
Tshwane municipal offices are crumbling because no one has fixed them for years, with broken gates, dirty floors and overgrown grass becoming a common sight.
MMC of Corporate and Shared Services, Kholofelo Morodi, found shocking conditions during her visit to the Atteridgeville municipal offices.
The building’s main gate has been broken for two years, forcing night shift security guards to bring their own chains and padlocks to secure the property. They must take these home when their shift ends.
Inside the building, the halls and reception areas are filthy. The floors are leaking and there is illegal dumping on the premises.
“It is concerning that the illegal dumping is within the premises of the municipal building when we are encouraging a clean environment,” said Morodi.
“We are going to get it cleaned and cleared and I will be monitoring it.”
She promised to check on repairs weekly. “I will be monitoring the repairs every week, we shouldn’t be in this situation but I will be working to resolve it,” she said.
Morodi raised concerns about grass cutting, building maintenance and cleaners not wearing their uniforms.
“I will be working to ensure that these issues are addressed so that we can professionalise the public service,” she said.
