Greece – It is never too late to learn, as proven by a former Greek tavern owner. Vasillis Panayiotaropoulos has gone back to school at 80 years old. He left school at the age of 12 to work in the fields but always dreamed of learning more. Now, he attends night school in Athens with students as young as his grandchildren. He was chosen to lead the school parade as a flag-bearer during Greece’s Oxi Day celebrations, and the moment went viral online.
India – Almost half the population of the world’s most populous country are convinced of the existence of gremlins. A global survey shows that 43% of Indians believe aliens have visited Earth. This belief is influenced by films like Independence Day, local stories, and reports about UFOs by NASA and the Pentagon, which don’t provide clear answers. Many people are curious and even suspicious, with some thinking the government might be hiding the truth. Scientists remain doubtful, but stories about aliens continue to intrigue many.
Moscow – In 1957, Laika, a stray dog, became the first living creature to orbit Earth in the Soviet Union’s Sputnik 2 spacecraft. Although she didn’t survive the trip, her mission proved that living beings could go to space. Her sacrifice helped scientists prepare for human space travel, but it also raised questions about the treatment of animals.
USA – President Joe Biden hosted a fancy dinner at the White House to thank his donors and supporters. He joked with the guests, asking them not to jump into the pool, and praised them for helping him achieve success in office. Important guests included Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Governor Tim Walz. Some donors who gave large amounts, like $250,000, did not attend the event.
