Zonke Dikana owes Sars millions

Renowned South African artist Zonke Dikana, known for hits like Tonight, owes the South African Revenue Services (Sars) about R18-million due to tax defaults over recent years.

A source close to Dikana revealed to ZiMoja that while she “has been paying her taxes,” some details “slipped through the cracks,” which led to her defaulting.

As a self-employed artist paid per gig, lapses often happen.

Despite her tax challenges, Dikana recently bought a Bentley and a Mercedes V-Class for her tour.

ZiMoja obtained documents confirming that a garnishing order is now in place on Dikana’s bank account, with repayments happening in instalments.

According to the source, the delay in addressing the issue stemmed from difficulty in reaching her, which led to “accumulated charges.”

Dikana is now addressing the matter with her legal and financial team.

Dikana’s situation is part of a bigger trend among South African celebrities facing financial challenges.

In July this year it was reported that Makhadzi owed Sars R6-6 million. She shared that she borrowed money to attend the 19th annual BET Awards in Los Angeles.

A tax consultant helped her reduce the debt to R2.7-million. The Limpopo singer is currently working on paying it off.
