Zuma’s daughter going to court over July unrest

  • Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after being charged over the 2021 riots.
  • She posted pictures of the destruction during the unrest with messages like “KZN, we see you”.

Jacob Zuma’s daughter Duduzile will appear in court on Thursday for her alleged role in the July 2021 unrest that brought KwaZulu-Natal to its knees.

The MK Party says Zuma-Sambudla’s lawyer got the charges last week and has called on supporters to come to the Durban Magistrate’s Court to back her.

The riots broke out after former president Zuma was arrested, leaving a trail of destruction across KZN.

During the violence, Zuma-Sambudla was active on social media, posting pictures of the chaos with comments like “KZN, we see you”.

Jean le Roux from the Digital Forensic Research Lab told the SA Human Rights Commission that she posted the most “celebratory” messages during the unrest, News24 reported.

Though the Hawks arrested 20 alleged riot instigators in 2022, Zuma-Sambudla wasn’t among them at the time.

The head of Hawks in KZN, Major General Lesetja Senona, said they were investigating her but wouldn’t give details.

He said they would only take their case to the National Prosecuting Authority once their investigation was complete.
